That's us making a start to the deep verti-draining of the Balcomie course greens tonight to make sure we stay ahead of the mini-hollowing coring tomorrow. We have the course closed to carry out this essential aeration work to help reduce thatch levels, improve drainage and most of all break up the compaction from the golfing season plus our mowers traffic

Friday 25 September 2015

The members favourite machine the big flail mower, the rough management program is still on going when the weather permits. Other tasks this week have been cutting all playing surfaces and continuing with the hollow coring of the Craighead course tees

Friday 18 September 2015

The aeration  work to the Craighead course greens & surrounds went to plan and the course was fully open again late afternoon on Wednesday
The holes left by the air2g2 - no disturbance to play
The guys back to the hollow coring of the Craighead course tees
We have put a flow meter on our sprayer to be more accurate with the water inputs
13th hole on the Craighead course

Tuesday 15 September 2015

Today we have the front 9 holes on the Craighead course closed to carryout aeration work which consists of a contractor using the air2g2 aerator to a depth of 11" on the outside tines and 9" on the middle tine to help break up compaction at these different levels
then behind that we have mini-hollow cored to help reduce surface compaction and the thatch levels, and clean up the cores
then a double verti-cut to reduce even more thatch and smooth off the surfaces

then a cut of the greens and surrounds to clean everything up
3 buggy loads worth of debris per green
then over seeded with our dimple roller seeder
then a light top-dress to the greens and surrounds and rubbed in
as the front 9 is closed it made sense to verti-drain the tees to a depth of 5" with no interruption from play. Tomorrow the same process will go ahead on the back 9 weather permitting

Tuesday 8 September 2015

Hollow coring of the Craighead surrounds and par 3 fairways is still on going in the afternoons once all the routine jobs are completed
At the weekend we held the Ranken Todd bowl with all the local clubs entering teams in which was a shotgun start at 8am so that meant we needed both greens cutters to cut the Balcomie course first then head on to the Craighead course so the tasks of cutting greens, changing holes, setting tee markers & raking bunkers were all completed before 7.45am

Wednesday 2 September 2015

That's us starting to carry out our rough management program again starting on the Craighead course, hoping to reduce the thickness of these areas to make them more playable and cleaner looking, this will be on going for the next couple of months weather/ground permitting

great to see how well the gorse maintenance plan is working
